About Steady Ground Collective

Why Steady Ground Exists

Steady Ground Collective was created to support first responders in a way that feels practical, respectful, and grounded in real life.

Through years of working alongside firefighters, paramedics, police, and other frontline professionals, we saw a consistent gap: support often exists, but not in a way that fits the realities of the job. Long hours, chronic stress, and high expectations leave little room for care that truly integrates mind and body.

Steady Ground Collective was created to help close that gap. Our sessions are designed to create real change, offering practical education, lived experience, and tools people can use both on the job and at home. We believe meaningful support, useful tools, and community are what help people feel steady over the long term.

Our Team

Jan McNeill, MA, RCC-ACS, CCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor-Approved Clinical Supervisor

Jan works with veterans, first responders, and the people who love them. For over two decades, her career has focused on understanding how trauma, operational stress, and cumulative exposure impact the brain, nervous system, relationships, and everyday life.

She has supported RCMP members, firefighters, paramedics, military personnel, corrections officers, dispatchers, healthcare professionals, and their families. Many of the people Jan works with come to therapy feeling exhausted, disconnected, or not like themselves anymore, while others arrive because life at home has become harder than life on the job. Wherever someone is starting from, her goal is to meet them there and help create a clear, manageable path forward.

Jan’s approach is practical, collaborative, and grounded in deep respect for the realities of service work. Therapy is not about “fixing” people, it’s about understanding how the nervous system has been working to protect them and building tools that restore a sense of control, safety, and choice.

Jan is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University. She has held leadership and clinical roles within veteran and first responder programs, including serving as Lead Clinical Counsellor at the Centre of Clinical Excellence for Veterans & First Responder Health. She is an approved provider for RCMP, Veterans Affairs Canada, and First Responder programs.

Lindsay Gellhaus, Ph.D.

Lifestyle Medicine Educator | Exercise & Occupational Physiologist

Lindsay is a lifestyle medicine educator with a background in exercise and occupational physiology and more than two decades of experience supporting health, performance, and wellbeing in high-stress, service-based roles.

She holds a Ph.D. in Occupational and Exercise Physiology and has spent much of her career designing, leading, and delivering education programs for veterans, first responders, and other frontline professionals. Her work focuses on translating complex science: movement, sleep, stress, recovery, metabolism, and nervous system regulation, into practical tools and learning experiences that fit demanding schedules and real lives

.

Lindsay brings a strong education-first lens to her work, with extensive experience in program design, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is known for creating learning environments where people don’t just receive information, but actively experience change and leave with tools they can apply immediately and build on over time.

Her approach is grounded, strengths-based, and practical. By helping people understand how their bodies respond to chronic stress and operational demands, Lindsay supports sustainable changes that build energy, clarity, resilience, and long-term health, both on the job and beyond the shift.

So, What's Next?!

We work with teams and organizations to provide education and counselling in group-based settings.
